This ingenious device counts bubbles passing through a fermentation lock. It is therefore useful for quantitative studies of fermentation where gas is produced.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

An infra-red detector coupled with an infra-red source enables the bubble counter to detect the movement of individual bubbles through the fermentation lock. The sensitivity of the detector can be adjusted so that it is unaffected by changes in the intensity of ambient light.

CAN IT BE CONNECTED TO A DATA LOGGER?

It depends upon the type of data logger you have. Please contact John Schollar if you would like more information about this type of adaptation.

WHAT SORT OF FERMENTATION LOCK DO I NEED?

As this type of glass fermentation lock is difficult to obtain, the NCBE now has them made specially. The bubble counter is supplied with two glass fermentation locks of the correct type (see photograph).
