Several safer alternatives to ethidium bromide for staining DNA on agarose gels are suggested here, including Methylene blue, Azure A and B, Toluidine blue O and Nile blue (also known as Nile blue sulphate). There are also hints on drying agarose gels and viewing them under white light. There are also details of several stains that can be used to view DNA 'on the move' on gels, although this technique needs to be supplemented by later additional staining of the gels to ensure good visibility. | ||||||
