The NCBE is located in TOB2 at Earley Gate on the Whiteknights campus at the University of Reading.
BY TRAIN
To Reading by rail from central London
A frequent service from London Paddington takes 25 minutes to reach Reading Station. There is also a slow stopping train service from London Waterloo.
From Heathrow Airport
The Heathrow RailAir Link is an express coach service between the airport central bus depot and Reading railway station. The journey takes about 70 minutes with departures every 30 minutes.
From Gatwick Airport
Thames Trains runs an hourly service between Gatwick Airport Station and Reading Station. The journey takes approximately 90 minutes.
BY BUS
From Reading town centre
Bus number 17 from central Reading (the stop near to the IBIS Hotel/Chelsea Building Society in Friar Street) goes to the Three Tuns pub on the Wokingham Road. Alight there. Crossing at the traffic lights, turn into Wilderness Road and take the first turning on the right (Whiteknights Road). Turn left into Earley Gate entrance. The NCBE is on the right, behind the new Enterprise Centre. Please note: on Reading Transport buses the drivers cannot give change: you must tender the correct fare. The trip from the town centre to the Three Tuns costs £2.00 one way.
TAXIS FROM THE STATION
From Reading railway station Taxi drivers in Reading often need to be given step-by-step directions. The drivers seldom have much of an idea about locations on the University campus. It is therefore a good idea to print out a copy of the map that you can download from this page (see link above right). Ask to be taken to the Earley Gate entrance to the University (on the Whiteknights campus).
BY ROAD
IMPORTANT: If you use a SatNav, please enter the postcode RG6 7BE, which will bring you to the Earley Gate entrance to the University. (although it is our official postcode, the RG6 6AU postal code will take you to a Royal Mail postal depot in Reading.)
From the M4 westbound
Leave the M4 at junction 10, taking the A329(M) towards Reading. Leave A329(M) at junction with A329, signposted to Winnersh, Earley and Woodley. Keep to the inside lane of the road and follow signs to Earley A329, (tricky junctions — overall you leave motorway, turn right at roundabout, bear left, then turn right by going round a large roundabout with traffic lights and roads cut though the middle). At the second set of traffic lights about a mile further on A329, turn left (filter lane) on to B3350. Almost immediately, turn right at mini-roundabout into Whiteknights Road — signposted University (Earley Gate). Turn left into Earley Gate entrance. The NCBE is on the right.
From the M4 eastbound
Leave the M4 at junction 11, take the B2270 signposted to Earley. After about a mile turn left at the roundabout onto the A327 towards Reading. Go straight over the next roundabout, then turn right into Elm Road at the following roundabout (by the Sportsman Pub). Go straight over the next 4 roundabouts along Wilderness Road. Turn left at the 5th roundabout into Whiteknights Road — signposted University (Earley Gate). Turn left into Earley Gate entrance. The NCBE is on the right.
Please note: there is no through road from the main entrance of the University to the Earley Gate side of the campus.
