Plant Science: Resources for Schools:

The NCBE supplies several resources for plant science education, most of which have been developed with our friends at Science and Plants for Schools (SAPS).

PHOTOSYNTHESIS KIT

This kit, which is based on one previously supplied by Science and Plants for Schools (SAPS), allows students to investigate photosynthesis using algae immobilised in calcium alginate.

CLONING CAULIFLOWER (PLANT TISSUE CULTURE)

You may have tried plant tissue culture before, and found it time-consuming and unreliable. This innovative kit provides a simple and effective method for plant tissue culture in schools.

THE PCR AND PLANT EVOLUTION

This gel electrophoresis module allows students to amplify chloroplast DNA using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The length of the fragments produced can be used to infer evolutionary relationships.

THIN LAYER CHROMATOGRAPHY OF PHOTOSYNTHETIC PIGMENTS FROM KIWI FRUIT

assessed practical task at A Level. Carried out on a small scale, it requires only small volumes of solvents.
